FAQs
FAQ - Adventure Motorcycle Tours
Itineraries & Destinations
What regions in the Indian Himalayas do you ride?
ADVbasics offers curated routes through Spiti Valley, Ladakh’s high passes, Uttrakhand’s forest trails, tribal regions in the North East, and Zanskar’s rugged landscapes. Each route is chosen for stunning vistas, cultural immersion, and varying degrees of technical challenges.
What about the Nepalese Himalayas?
Nepal is very close to our heart. we offer curated trips to Upper Mustang, Lower Mustang and Manang.
How long do your expeditions typically last?
Standard tours run 7–14 days. We also design 3-day taster rides, 21-day deep-dives, and fully bespoke journeys. Multi-week options include rest days for acclimatization and side excursions.
Can I combine multiple regions into one trip?
Yes. We can link Spiti with Ladakh / Zanskar other options on request into a single seamless itinerary. Custom combinations ensure you maximize scenery and cultural encounters.
Skill Level & Experience Requirements
What riding experience do I need?
We recommend at least intermediate off-road skills—confidence standing, throttle control on loose surfaces, and basic hill climbs. If you are not yet confident, we can do a pre-ride fundamentals course or a private pre-tour training session to bring your skills & confidence up to speed.
How technical are the routes?
Routes vary from runway-like tarmac to broken tarmac and graded gravel tracks (difficulty level 2/5) to tracks with babyhead rocks and small water crossings (up to 3/5). Each day’s brief outlines expected terrain and suggested fitness level.
The exception is our extreme tours where the difficulty level varies between 3/5 – 5/5.
Health, Safety & Altitude Acclimatization
How do you manage altitude sickness?
Our itineraries include built-in acclimatization days. We train guides in AMS recognition, carry portable oxygen, and have emergency evacuation protocols. We also strongly recommend a prophylactic protocol with Acetazolamize (to be approved by a competent and licensed Physician experienced in High Altitude).
What medical facilities are available en route?
A support vehicle carries comprehensive medical kits. Our guides are internationally certified in Wilderness Medicine. Depending on the trip, the lead or sweep rider might be a qualified first responder. The high mountains is a resource-austere environment when it comes to medicine so we design our trips accordingly. If you have specific medical concerns you can reach out to us nd we would be happy to make suitable accommodations where possible.
Booking & Payment
How far in advance should I book?
Peak season (May–October) fills quickly. We recommend booking 6–9 months ahead for preferred dates, motorcycle selection, and group size. Off-season can be confirmed 2–3 months prior.
What are your payment terms?
A 30% deposit confirms your spot. The balance is due 60 days before departure. Flexible plans and installment options are available for group or long-duration trips.
What’s your cancellation policy?
- >120 days: 10% fee
- 90–120 days: 25% fee
- 60–90 days: 50% fee
- <60 days: Non-refundable, transferable credit only

Can you arrange airport transfers?
Yes. We include private transfers from Delhi, Chandigarh, or Leh airports. Vehicles are air-conditioned (except in Leh) and equipped for luggage on arrival and departure days.
What about fuel and spare parts?
Our support vehicle carries emergency fuel, common consumable spares, and toolkits. For remote areas where fuel availability or quality is expected to be an issue, we do prior fuel dumps at our accommodations in multiples of 200l barrels.

Equipment & Gear
What bikes do you use for training?
We always recommend learning on the bike you are going to ride. Translating skills from one platform to the other creates an additional learning burden on the rider.
For those instances where it is not possible or practical to use the rider’s own bike, have partnered with motorcycle rental companies to provide up-to-date, well maintained machines suited to the course —Most newer model motorcycles from KTM, BMW, Triumph and other brands can be made available.
Is protective gear included?
No. We ask that the rider bring their own motorcycle gear to ensure the correct fit and therefore safety and comfort during their learning journey. In case the rider does not have a required item of safety gear, we are happy to recommend trusted vendors across Delhi-NCR where they may acquire it.
Can I use my own motorcycle?
Absolutely. We Prefer it. Bring your bike for personalized suspension setup, and ergonomics adjustments guided by our experts.

What is the typical coach-to-student ratio?
Usually no more than 10 students per coach. This small ratio ensures individualized feedback, hands-on adjustments, and real-time analysis of your technique.

Things to remember during your Adventure Tour
- Optimize your energy right from the start (rest, stress, etc…)
- Consciously practice public hygiene): frequently wash your hands to avoid any gastrointestinal problems from the beginning!
- Never set off without water – you can end up by yourself having to make considerable efforts in high temperatures and/or high altitude putting you at risk for heat stroke and dehydration
- Monitor your urine output (it must be copious and clear)
- It is advisable to mix water with an isotonic flavored hydration mix. adding flavoring changes the feeling of thirst and may save your life. Use ORS if hydration mix is not available.
- In the rare case that you get separated from the group, do not abandon your vehicle unless in imminent danger.
- Protect yourself from mosquito bites (by always having strong mosquito repellent with you)
- Altitude sickness – usually starts with a headache and nausea. Avoid intense physical efforts at altitude until properly acclimated. If your doctor approves and you do not have any known allergies, you can use Diamox (Acetazolamide). Remember that it results in increased urination, so you must drink additional water to compensate!
- Know when to stop – talk to the trip leader as soon as fatigue, overheating, thirst or altitude sickness symptoms are felt.
- When arriving at the rest-stops, you must hydrate – neither beer nor caffeine-based drinks are acceptable hydration. Both alcohol and caffeine are diuretics which means that they aggravate dehydration.
- Do not skip meals. Adequate nutrition is important to having a good time on the trip. Keep some emergency calorie-dense rations on your person for emergencies.
